PhD Forum (Doctoral Consortium)
The annual BNCOD PhD Forum (Doctoral Consortium) provides the opportunity for PhD students in fields relevant to the topics of the conference to present and discuss their research, and to discuss the PhD process. The forum is run as a relatively informal meeting during the morning before the start of the conference, 9:30-12:30 Tuesday 29th June, at Dudhope Castle (see the Venue and Accommodation Information section) where the PhD students will meet with experienced academics.
This year's PhD Forum will be run by Dr. Alavaro Fernandes from the University of Manchester, and Dr. Les Ball from the University of Abertay Dundee. The Conference Chair, Professor Lachlan MacKinnon, will also attend the Forum during the morning to join the discussions.
Students who have submitted papers for the PhD Forum, and had them accepted, will be expected to make a detailed presentation on their area of research, and, dependent on their year of study, their research question, their progress in answering that question, and the design of any experiments or tools that they are using for that research. Feedback will be provided in response to both the submitted paper and the presentation, and the students will be given an opportunity to revise their papers, before they appear in the Springer proceedings.
